Renew! Refresh! Rejoice!
Since 2005, the Building and Grounds Leadership Team has been assessing the need to renew and replace the aging infrastructure of our sanctuary including lighting systems, electrical wiring, ceiling design and tiles, and parts of the mechanical system. In 2010, the church engaged architects to develop a master plan for maintenance, renovation and enhancements of the sanctuary to also include new lighting fixtures, new choral platform and altar area, repairs to pipe organ, upgrading audio/visual equipment and adding a touch of stained glass to our windows. On October 2, 2011, the church voted to move forward by authorizing a financial campaign to provide the funding for the project.
Between now and December 11, 2011, information will be distributed regarding how each of us may participate in the Renew! Refresh! Rejoice! Campaign. The estimated cost of the project is $2,025,000. We currently have $775,000 of the total project cost available from church and school funds. The campaign goal is $1,250,000 to accomplish the full scope of the project.
Donor cards will be available in the foyer and church office as well as mailed to church members. After prayerfully considering the amount you or your family are willing to give, complete the pledge commitment and bring it to worship on December 11, 2011. All giving to the Renew! Refresh! Rejoice! Campaign should be over and above regular tithes and offerings given to the R.O.B.C. ministry budget.
The goal is doable. It will take 100% participation of those who give annually to our ministry budget. Remember your pledge to the campaign is a three year pledge that can be paid over a three-year period. Let’s do it - together. We give out of our faith for the future of our church.

“Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.” (1 Chronicles 22:19 NIV)
When we first visited ROBC more than 25 years ago, the first place we visited was the sanctuary. Of course, we did not contribute to the building of the sanctuary. It was already there. And when we stepped into the sanctuary, we stepped not only into a building but also into a fellowship of believers who were seeking the Lord as described in 1 Chronicles above and who had been doing so for many years. That same fellowship has been a forgiving, loving, supporting and encouraging source of hope and inspiration for our family since we have been members of ROBC, and the sanctuary has been not only the physical center but also the spiritual center of that experience for the Poffs. We have been blessed to have shared with the ROBC fellowship in the sanctuary many joyous occasions, including the baptism of our two daughters and, more recently, the marriage of our older daughter. And we have been touched by God’s spirit on numerous other occasions in the sanctuary.
So what does the sanctuary renovation project mean to us? Well, it is an opportunity for us to make a contribution that will enhance the substantial legacy left to us by the ROBC founders. And, maybe more importantly, it is an opportunity for us to join hands with others in the ROBC fellowship and do something that we could not do by ourselves -- enhance our sanctuary as a place for worship and fellowship and where people today and tomorrow can seek and be touched by the Lord. Current ROBC members and future members. Visitors and guests. Neighbors. Family members. Loved ones and total strangers.
That’s why we are supporting the sanctuary renovation campaign. We hope you will join us!

Forty-nine years ago, our company had a lengthy job in Houston so we rented an apartment on San Felipe and attended River Oaks Baptist Church. Through church, Little League and school, we made life-long friends and never wanted to return to our hometown of 600 people. Our business could be conducted from here as well, so we bought a house on Drexel, directly behind the church, which was a much smaller campus then, and cut a gate from our backyard to the church backyard. Our son spent all his spare time in the gym or hanging out with the wonderful old janitor we had at that time.
Church meant, and still does, very much to our well-being, comfort and genuine happiness. I had the privilege of working with Berta Hamilton on Girl's Auxiliary. Lois Hamilton Wright was in our group and it gives me pleasure to see her still here. Our daughter moved to Denton and is an active participant in their church there.
We have loved ROBC through all these years. It pleases us to be able to participate in the renovation of our beautiful sanctuary, a place to refresh and strengthen our religious values and to have the comfort of knowing we have support from our church family.
